We provide places and paths for children with serious illnesses and life challenges to experience the joys of childhood and grow in their confidence and capabilities.
Camp Twin Lakes will be a vital statewide network of closely aligned partners that are united in providing year-round camping and other transformative experiences that deeply impact our children and support their families throughout childhood.
Camp Twin Lakes...a place where young spirits can soar
Located on 500 wooded acres in Rutledge, Ga., just 50 miles east of Atlanta, Camp Twin Lakes is a not-for-profit organization that provides a state-of-the-art, year-round camp facility with programs for children with serious illnesses and special needs. Working in collaboration with its partners, Camp Twin Lakes provides an enriching camping experience for children who might otherwise be unable to attend camp.
Prior to Camp Twin Lakes' opening in 1993, special needs groups in Georgia lacked adequate facilities to hold their camping programs. Today, Camp Twin Lakes partners with these organizations to provide customized programs, medical care and services for each group of campers.
The children can take part in the many joys of camp-swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, campfires and sleeping under the stars-without compromising their medical care. While at Camp Twin Lakes, they gain self-esteem, self-awareness and independence by participating in recreational, therapeutic and educational programs in a supportive, nurturing, fully-accessible environment.
Since its opening, Twin Lakes has welcomed more than 30,000 children and volunteers. Each year, thousands of campers and volunteers from more than 20 different camp groups head to Camp Twin Lakes for weeklong summer sessions and fall and spring weekend retreats.
Like every other young boy and girl who goes to camp, here they will swim, dance, fish, canoe, play outdoor and indoor team sports, do arts and crafts, act, ride horses, and sing around a campfire. They will play. They will grow. And for this short period, a time they will remember their entire lives, they will be free to be children.
Our staff is well trained to meet the needs of our guests. A medical director is on permanent staff and we collaborate with each special camp to ensure every child's needs are attended to, whether medical or otherwise. A number of our counselors and staff are state certified to teach various physical activities such as archery, horseback riding and swimming.
